Trust Corporation International hits the road with GVS
Members of the Trust Corporation International team are putting their pens down in aid of the Guernsey Voluntary Service (GVS).
Team members are helping the charity by assisting GVS staff in serving hot lunches to residents of the Russell Day Centre throughout 2020.
The time volunteered will amount to more than 200 hours and it is estimated that the Trust Corporation team will assist in serving 1,000 meals.
The leading independent Guernsey-based trust company has also funded the service and upkeep of the four Meals on Wheels vehicles for the year to ensure islanders that are unable to cook for themselves do not go without their hot lunches.
Ken Wrigley, Finance Director at Trust Corporation International, said: “We are thrilled to be able to contribute towards a charity that is so important for our local community. We wanted a cause that would empower our team and enable them to make a tangible contribution, those of us who have been involved so far are finding the service highly rewarding. We hope that our donation and helping out will ensure everyone in need of a meal on the island is catered for.”
Meals on Wheels was launched by the Women’s Voluntary Service (WRVS) in 1960 before it was taken over by GVS, who became independent from the WRVS in 2011. The initial philosophy of the charity was to give practical support to isolated, lonely people and assist them in maintaining their independence to help them remain in their own homes. Meals on Wheels is available six days a week with approximately 25,000 meals being delivered to people in Guernsey every year.
Mandy Le Bachelet, Manager at GVS, said: “We really appreciate the support from Trust Corporation and are so pleased they understand the value this support gives us. We hope that more companies will follow in their footsteps and offer assistance, whether it is through a donation or volunteering. This sort of collaboration allows us to continue helping our islanders who need us most.” For more information on the Guernsey Voluntary Service visit its website here: http://www.gvs.org.gg/
